Towards the end of his peaceful short life, Sean realized that things are not what they seem to be. Everything now made sense though. He looked tired and leukemia had taken a toll on his health. With his family in tears and by his side, he could only look at them and talk about the good times. He soon realized that he had spent most of his time in trying to cross finish lines. Small jokes and few moments of compassion with his mother, debates and encouragements from his father and motivations for his brother and good times with his friends are the only thing that mattered even in his deathbed.
There was however one thing that made Sean different, there was not a feeling of guilt or desire to live on by him. Sean, even in his young age, had figured out life and its costs. He figured out the meaning of contributing and reasoned the purpose of his existence. He cared little about him being on the deathbed, but he cared more on how much he gathered from the society he followed. In this flow of thought, the sound of the broken glass suddenly snapped him out. He looked around only to see his parents crying and his brother consoling them. His friends looking sadly at his state, visibly disturbed. He figured out that people do not see the end of life in a very nice regard. They feel pity and do not want to see the person go away. Overtime people get attached and memories remain. Sean wondered, how many in this audience would actually think about him. He knew that his parents will remain sad, may be for a few months and slowly they will learn to forget and move on. His brother will think about him everyday and mention about him to everyone. Sean heaved a long breath at that thought! His friends, well they will move on a few days or weeks.
He wondered, then why do this, may be its human nature, may be its just people being selfish and wanting to keep him around. He thought of the day he learned about his leukemia, when his smile turned to a frown and he wondered if he had enough time to complete his responsibilities. Not once did he feel bad he was going to die, he did feel terrible that he may not be able to achieve his goals and responsibilities now. A few years to go, he wanted to die a peaceful death. He started looking back in his life and noticed that several simple lessons had made him what he was today. "Sean.. Sean.." the doc called .. "get up!", Sean got up only to say, "Hey doctor! I didnt see you with that cool hairstyle in this audience, is that too much gel or just frustration!" Sean always made sure he left his funny mark, even in his deathbed, he was funny. "Sean, I have to inject you with morphine, it will put you to sleep.", the doc said. "Alrighty, may be this will help me get back to what I was thinking", Sean said with a smile. Going into the deep slumber, Sean transcended some valuable timelines in his life...
